Africa Nations Cup draw in Tunisia on 20th September
The draw for Africa Nations Cup taking place in Tunisia from 24th January to 14th February 2004 took place on Saturday 20 September in
The ceremony was presided by CAF president Mr. Issa Hayatou and other high ranking CAF officials, Chairman of COCAN 2004 Chiboub Slim, Chairman FTF Ben Ammar Hammouda, representatives of the 16 finalists, journalists and other sports enthusiasts.
Mustapha Fahmy, CAF general secretary conducted the draw.
Host Tunisia, defending champions Cameroon and the fourteen qualified teams from the elimination stages, which began September 2002 and ended July 2003 were divided into four groups. Tunisia, defending Champions Senegal, Cameroon and Nigeria were four seeded teams heading group A,B,C and D respectively.
Group A:Tunisia,Rwanda, RD Congo, Guinea
GroupB:Senegal, Burkina Faso, Kenya, Mali
Group C:Cameroon, Algeria, Zimbabwe, Egypt
GroupD:Nigeria, Morocco, South Africa, Benin
The tournament will be played in six venues namely 7th Novembre Rades Stadium, El Menzah Stadium, Sousse Stadium, Monastir Stadium, 15th October Bizerte Stadium and Mhiri Stadium Sfax.
Tunisia and Rwanda will play the opening match on 24th January 2004 at 7th Novembre Rades Stadium before the biennial Africa football fiesta final on 14th February at the same venue.
Die Veranstaltung fand im Hotel Renaissance in Gammarth (bei Tunis). Tunesien hat eine ziemlich leichte Gruppe erwischt(A), im Gegenteil zur Gruppe D. Auch Winfried Schäfer, Nationaltrainer von Kamerun war dabei.
